ADUs, once called “mother-in-law suites,” are being used for rental income and extended family housing. With relaxed regulations and city support, Fresno has seen a significant rise in ADU permits, mirroring a broader trend across California. Despite the increase in ADUs, they’re not enough to solve the affordable housing crisis. Nevertheless, more homeowners are taking advantage of this opportunity to maximize property value and create additional living space.
